A (Virtual) Evening on the Amalfi Coast

Join us from the comfort of your own home for a one of a kind culinary experience featuring authentic Italian wines and cuisine prepared by YOU! As a gala attendee, you will receive recipes and step by step video instructions on how to prepare authentic pasta dishes and entrees presented by Vincenzino Amatruda, Executive Chef of the Villa Maria Cooking School in Ravello, Italy on the Amalfi Coast.

You will be instructed on how to shop for and prepare all your ingredients ahead of time so that on the evening of the gala, you and your guests are ready to cook wonderful Italian food under the expert guidance of Chef Vincenzino from his Ravello kitchen. You will enjoy the meal you prepare with an assemblage of Allegrini’s premier wines as Sommelier Robin Shay takes you on a journey through the Italian countryside. Invite your family and friends for an unforgettable, entertaining evening of good food, good wine, and good company while supporting a good cause.

Support of this year’s gala will raise funds to develop and sustain programs and services that address the wide-ranging health care needs of the communities Griffin serves ensuring access to innovative, high-quality care in a healing, person-centered environment.

***Deadline for wine delivery is Monday, November 9 at 12:00pm.  Any sponsor and ticket purchases after deadline date and time, the wine may be picked up at the Griffin Hospital Development Office, 14-16 Spring Street, Derby, CT.

    Master Chef

    Chef Vincenzo Amatruda is Master Chef and Head of Culinary Courses of Mediterranean Diet at the Organic Garden of the Villa Maria Hotel in Ravello, one of the most spectacular towns on Italy's magical Amalfi Coast. He owns and operates his own restaurant in Agerola, a village in the hills of the Coast, overlooking the sea. Chef Vincenzo was born in Ravello and has spent most of his life there. He actually began his culinary career while still in high school in Amalfi and Salerno, working in local hotels and restaurants during the summer months. Upon graduation he began his formal training under renowned master chefs in two of the most exclusive hotels in the region, Hotel Rufolo and Hotel Palumbo. After various work experiences in Venezia and Padova in Northern Italy, he traveled to London where he became a Master Chef. He began offering personalized cooking courses almost 20 years ago, frequented by many tourists to the region, including many famous celebrities. Today he continues this immersive experience, sharing his passion for Italian cuisine and, particularly, the history of the cuisine of the Campania region. He takes great pleasure in sharing his knowledge, in his classes for young professional chefs and for all who love to dabble in the kitchen and enjoy cooking. Though his is a renowned professional, Chef Vincenzo humbly refers to himself only as an "innkeeper," or "Oste" in Italian.

    Robin Shay


    As the acting Export Manager for the Americas, Robin Shay oversees sales, marketing and distribution for the Allegrini group of wineries (Allegrini, Corte Giara, San Polo, and Poggio al Tesoro) in the western hemisphere. Originally from the Napa Valley, Robin graduated from the University of San Pablo in Madrid, Spain with a degree in International Business. He later moved to Portugal to work alongside famed winemaker Jerry Luper (Freemark Abbey, Diamond Creek, Bouchaine) in the Douro Valley. Robin became a professional certified Sommelier in Rome and, in 2004, moved to Southern Italy to work in the cellars (and later as export manager) of one of Campania's premier estates. In 2008, he met Marilisa Allegrini and has been working for her family ever since.

    A native of the Napa Valley, Mezzo-soprano Meghan Scheibal holds a master's degrees from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, and the Scuola Musicale di Milano (La Scala), in Italy. Meghan has performed internationally, and recently made appearances with the New York City Opera, at Carnegie Hall with the Manhattan Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, and at the Lincoln Center with the New York City Ballet.

    David Bibbey is an Emmy Award winning broadcast TV producer, host/presenter, corporate videographer, event emcee and a poet laureate. David hosted and produced CPTV's 'All Things Connecticut', 'Connecticut Cultural Treasures' and was the concept creator, producer and host of the 'Breaking Bread' series. As Executive Producer of CONNECTICUT MEANS BUSINESS - a team of producers and creatives - David has worked with many of the CT State departments, has created content and produced live streaming events for corporates and non-profits and can be found most days as producer in residence at the acclaimed Westport Library Media Studios.
